Sodium Dialysate Prescription in a New Dialysis Facility
نویسندگان
چکیده
As the Medical Director of this new dialysis facility, I recommend a fixed sodium dialysate (Nadial) concentration at 138 mEq/L. This relates to my former experience in Tassin unit France and fear as powerful uremic toxin. realize that, according Na+ set-point theory, value Nadial may create plasma–dialysate (P–D) gradient favor intradialytic plasma changes. In cases where is associated with signs negative balance (bad session tolerance/quality life) or positive (high interdialytic weight gain high blood pressure), individualization reduce P–D change be useful, even though evidence remains scarce. look forward possibility using machines that allow for evaluation tailoring diffusion process.

Do not forget to individualize dialysate sodium prescription.
Sodium mass balance is primarily dependent on two factors: dietary salt intake and sodium removal during haemodialysis (HD). Salt intake during the interdialysis period is dependent on patient behaviour and is a strong driver of volume overload [1]. The average American consumes ∼149 mmol/day [2]; most Western societies consume between 150 and 250 mmol/day [3]. There is evidence that HD patient...
متن کاملSodium Gradient: A Tool to Individualize Dialysate Sodium Prescription in Chronic Hemodialysis Patients?
Low dialysate sodium concentrations have been associated with intradialytic symptoms such as muscle cramps and hypotensive episodes. High dialysate sodium concentrations lead to sodium loading, thirst and subsequent increase in interdialytic weight gain and hypertension. The optimal dialysate sodium concentration for an individual depends on the serum sodium concentration. The difference betwee...

متن کاملDialysate Composition in Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis
The goal of dialysis for patients with chronic renal failure is to restore the composition of the body’s fluid environment toward normal. This is accomplished principally by formulating a dialysate whose constituent concentrations are set to approximate normal values in the body. Over time, by diffusional transfer along favorable concentration gradients, the concentrations of solutes that were ...
